Bellator 260 Preview: Douglas Lima – Yaroslav Amosov

Tomorrow night in the headliner of Bellator 260, the welterweight title is on the line. Welterweight champion Douglas Lima (32-8) is back to defend his title against the undefeated top contender Yaroslav Amosov (25-0).

Lima is actually looking to bounce back after his last performance. The welterweight champion moved up to middleweight last October at Bellator 250 to challenge the middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi.

While Lima had his moments in that fight, he lost by unanimous decision. That loss snapped the three-fight win streak that Lima was on that led him to the Bellator welterweight championship. His last fight at welterweight came at Bellator 232 when he defeated Rory MacDonald.

Standing across from Lima tomorrow night is Yaroslav Amosov. Amosov has obviously been perfect for his entire professional career, but he’s really stood out since joining Bellator back in 2018.

Since making his debut with the promotion, Amosov has gone an impressive 6-0. In his last fight at Bellator 252 in November, Amosov took on the tough Logan Storley. It was a grueling back-and-forth fight, but ultimately Amosov walked away with a split decision and a welterweight title shot.

Bellator 260 Prediction

I’m so intrigued by this Bellator 260 main event and I’m expecting a very competitive fight. For Amosov, it’s really no secret as to what he’s going to do. I’m looking for Amosov to immediately pressure Lima when the fight starts.

If Amosov is going to become welterweight champion tomorrow night, it’s going to be through his grappling and activity. In Douglas Lima’s last fight, he was a bit too passive and it allowed Gegard Mousasi to get way out ahead on the scorecards.

If Lima wants to keep his title tomorrow night, he’s going to have to engage with Amosov. One big concern I have about Amosov is his cardio. We saw him completely exhausted at the end of his fight with Storley at Bellator 252.

That was only a three-round fight and if he gets that tired again, I think he’s going to be in massive trouble. I think the first half of this fight is going to favor Amosov, but I think Lima comes on strong late. My prediction is that Amosov will get too tired and Lima was score a championship round TKO to retain his Bellator crown.

Prediction: Douglas Lima by TKO – Round 4

Bellator books Douglas Lima – Yaroslav Amosov

The Bellator welterweight title is going to be defended in June. Yahoo’s Kevin Iole was the first to report today that the promotion had finalized a matchup between welterweight champion Douglas Lima (32-8) and unbeaten top contender Yaroslav Amosov (25-0).

The title fight will take place at Bellator 260 on June 10th. For Amosov, this is the opportunity that he’s been waiting for since he joined Bellator. “Dynamo” signed with the promotion back in 2018 and debuted against Gerald Harris.

After an impressive win against Harris, Bellator put Amosov in there with UFC veteran Erick Silva. Again, it was another impressive win for the welterweight out of The Ukraine.

After three more impressive victories, Bellator booked him against Logan Storley last November. The matchup against Storley told us a lot about how good Yaroslav Amosov can be.

The fight was razor close. While there were times where Amosov looked vulnerable, he ultimately pulled out the decision win at Bellator 252. That win was good enough for Scott Coker to make Amosov the number one contender at 170 pounds.

Bellator 260

At Bellator 260, we will see the welterweight return of Douglas Lima. Douglas Lima is one of the best welterweights in the world regardless of promotion. However, last fight took place at middleweight.

At Bellator 250, Lima attempted to become a two-division champion. Lima moved up to take on Gegard Mousasi. Lima had won three fights in a row and he was a popular pick on the betting lines.

Mousasi proved to be too much for the welterweight champion. Lima was extremely hesitant to pull the trigger and he just wasn’t active enough to earn himself a decision.

Now, Lima will go back to his natural weight class where the undefeated Ukrainian awaits him. We should see an incredible matchup at Bellator 260 and I expect the grappling of Amosov to push Lima hard. Will it be enough to take the belt away from him? Time will tell on that one.

Battle of the unbeatens at Bellator 252

Tomorrow night Bellator 252 hosts a number of fantastic fights. For obvious reasons, a lot of the attention is on the headliner between Patricio Pitbull and Pedro Carvalho. Aaron Pico is also on the Bellator card tomorrow night.

However, there is a fantastic matchup in the welterweight division which really deserves a lot of attention. The fight pairs two top contenders against each other, and both of these fighters happen to be undefeated entering Bellator 252.

That welterweight contest is between Yaroslav Amosov (24-0) and Logan Storley (11-0). Both of these welterweights are looking to take one step closer to securing a shot at Bellator welterweight champion, Douglas Lima.

Storley will be making his seventh appearance inside of Bellator. Storley has gone through every opponent that the promotion has put in front of him including Joaquin Buckley who became a sensation after his highlight knockout in the UFC.

A six-time state champion in wrestling, Storley has used his dominance on the mat to secure his perfect record. There aren’t many people Storley will enter the cage against who will bring his level of ground skills. However, Amosov is one of those fighters.

Bellator 252 Prediction

If you want to find a fighter who displays dominance, look no further than Yaroslav Amosov. 24 men have stepped across from him and all 24 have lost. Out of those 24 victories, only five of them have gone to the scorecards.

Amosov is a world champion in Sambo. He’s extremely good when it comes to his grappling and he displayed those skills against a top wrestler like Ed Ruth. On top of his skills on the mat, Amosov also has really decent striking.

This is a really tough matchup for a guy like Logan Storley. He’s got incredible wrestling credentials, but he’s going up against a guy who might be better on the mat. On top of that, Amosov is going to have the striking advantage.

When it comes to a prediction for Bellator 252, I’m definitely leaning towards Amosov. I just see there being more ways for him to win this fight. I think Storley will keep it competitive, but Amosov just has too many tools in the toolbox.

Prediction: Yaroslav Amosov by Unanimous Decision
