The New York Jets wrapped up their fifth-straight day of work early Friday afternoon. The team has its annual Green and White Scrimmage tomorrow night at MetLife Stadium.
Injury updates:
After missing a good chunk of time on the non-football injury list, both Tevin Coleman and Jeremy Ruckert were back getting work today. George Fant continued to get work in during today’s practice in 11-on-11. Ty Johnson and Vinny Curry both missed practice again today with hamstrings.
Who shined in practice for the New York Jets:
The defensive line of the Jets seemed to be busy throughout today’s work. Carl Lawson continues to show that he is back and better than ever. He reportedly had at least two sacks today and was consistently generating pressure. For the second day in a row, Jermaine Johnson had a sack, encouraging for the young rookie. John Franklin-Myers seemed to be active throughout practice today as well for the defensive line.
With the defensive line’s dominance, the Jets offense reportedly had some struggles today. Upfront, the offensive line did not give the offense much time to work with. The star today for the offense was supposedly Michael Carter. He caught one nice pass downfield near the sideline from Zach Wilson.
Zach Wilson had some good and bad throughout today’s work. Per Rich Cimini, Wilson went 9-for-13. He did throw one interception on a downfield pass. The completion to Carter downfield was reportedly a well-thrown ball. Lastly, the defensive line being active and winning will, of course impact how Wilson executes.
The final two players offensively worth noting today are new additions in, Tyler Conklin and Zonovan Knight. Per Cimini, the organization is impressed with what they have seen from Conklin already, who seems poised to break out. Knight had one long touchdown run that went for 65-yards and ended today’s practice. The undrafted rookie free agent seems to be having a good camp.

Media availability following practice:
The Jets had Denzel Mims, Braxton Berrios, and Jordan Whitehead meet with the media along with Robert Saleh following today’s practice.
Saleh spoke about Mims at length on where the third-year wide receiver currently is.
“He’s doing a really good job. He is fighting his tail off in the run game… Because he’s so well conditioned right now, he’s doing things with his body in the pass game from a route running standpoint that he hasn’t been able to do in the past. He’s battling in teams, that’s gonna be a big part of it, too, being reliable on special teams. Really, really happy with the approach he’s taken this offseason, the way he attacked OTA’s, and the way he’s come into training camp, where he is mentally, the coaching he’s accepting, doesn’t make excuses, he’s grinding. He’s approaching it like a professional. And for that, I’m grateful.”
When asked about his progress from last summer to now, Saleh stated Mims has come, “A long way, a long way. Again, I’ll even tell him he’s still got more in the tank, but he’s much improved from a year ago.”
Mims spoke on where he sees himself amongst the Jets’ current group of wide receivers, “Hopefully, I see myself on top. I mean, I feel like I put in enough work to be there. That’s the coaches decision. I’m gonna continue to work my tail off and do everything I can.” He followed up by stating his only goal is to be a “starting receiver.”
Berrios stated he “absolutely” sees a change in his second-year quarterback, Zach Wilson. He discussed the way that Wilson has “attacked this, his focus, his energy, and his drive to continually get better.”
