Following day one of 2022 training camp, the three faces of the New York Jets spoke with SiriusXM NFL Radio. Fourth-year general manager Joe Douglas, along with second-year head coach Robert Saleh and quarterback Zach Wilson all had some encouraging things to say.

Wilson’s excitement with Elijah Moore

Wilson was asked about all of his skill position players. He discussed the running backs, wide receivers, and new tight ends. In particular, Wilson highlighted Elijah Moore. He stated, “Obviously, we draft Garrett high, and I know he’s gonna be a stud. But I think you see the development that Elijah Moore went through from year one to year two. You can see that change you know that I’m hoping I go through as well too. You know, you can see he’s getting an understanding just like Garrett’s going to as time goes on. So, I’m really excited for Elijah Moore.”

Douglas on Zach Wilson’s growth

Douglas spoke about his young, second-year signal-caller and had nothing but great things to say. He said, “Zach, all he has to do is be himself. And the thing you love about Zach is his confidence never sways, his work ethic never dips. I mean, you talk about a guy that’s obsessed with football. It’s a great problem to have. He’s obsessed with getting better.”

Douglas stated it is going to be “fun” to see Wilson’s “great improvement” from the start of his rookie year to now.

Saleh on Mekhi Becton’s offseason

The status of third-year offensive tackle Mekhi Becton has been a talking point of the Jets all offseason. Yesterday, Saleh had this to say about Becton, “So Mekhi, from minicamp until now, it’s been consistent, he’s been here. Which working with our doctors, working with our trainers, working with the strength and conditioning staff, and putting himself through the work that he needed to get himself back into football shape.”

Saleh went on further, stating, “To his credit, he’s done it. He’s been out here every day, he was out on the football field today, and he’s cleared.” He finished applauding Becton with, “Credit to him and the work that he’s put in.”
