Time flies. Believe it or not, New York Jets superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers is about to enter his age-40 NFL season. With that comes valid speculation as to when he will hang up his cleats.
As a recent guest on the Pardon My Take podcast, Rodgers addressed what the near future may look like for him and laid out a goal that, if achieved, could leave him content and wanting nothing more on the gridiron, saying (h/t Adam Schultz of Athlon Sports Nation’s Jets Country):
“I don’t know. I’m not sure,” Rodgers said. “This one, for sure. I wanted to do two good ones to give us a chance to retire a Jet, win two Super Bowls.”
Aaron Rodgers wants to win two Super Bowls with the Jets before retiring
That’s what will do it for the four-time NFL MVP — two more Super Bowl wins. The Jets’ organization won’t sabotage the team to keep him around longer, but Rodgers has a legitimate chance to make that goal a reality. He already has one Super Bowl title under his belt from 2010 as a member of the Green Bay Packers. He would become a three-time champion if he could lead the Jets to two Vince Lombardi trophies in short order.
The Jets finished 7-10 last season. Had Rodgers been healthy for the entire campaign, the Jets could have had a winning season. Now that running back Breece Hall has another year of experience under his belt, the receiving game has Mike Williams added to its mix, and the offensive line is revamped with rookie Olu Fashanu, the Jets’ offense will be ready to show out in 2024.
New York’s defense was also elite in 2023 and can hold on to its status as the No. 1 defense in the NFL next season. All of the ingredients are there for the Jets to cook up a pair of Super Bowl runs before Rodgers’ top-tier play dwindles, or before he decides to retire while still being that caliber of player the football world has grown accustomed to.

The Jets have a strong chance to take home the 2024 Vince Lombardi Trophy
Years following 2024 are too early to forecast. However, next season, the Jets are greatly positioned to come out on top in the AFC East. Last year’s division champion Buffalo Bills have to prove they are still an 11-win team or better without superstar WR Stefon Diggs while the 11-6 Miami Dolphins from a year ago also pose a major threat to the Jets but can be bested in the standings.
Should Rodgers become a three-time champ down the line, he’ll strengthen his case as the greatest quarterback and greatest player of all time. He allowed Tom Brady to win four Super Bowls in the thick of his prime, and afterward, Patrick Mahomes took the league by storm with many of the same exhilarating abilities that Rodgers has en route to three Super Bowls of his own since 2019. Rodgers upping his total could give him the edge, especially seeing that many view him as the most talented of the three.
