Aaron Rodgers has one NFL analyst fully sold that he’ll return to MVP form for the New York Jets in 2024, and then some.
Rich Eisen is bullish on the Jets’ superstar quarterback with the weapons he has at his disposal for next season. So much so, that on his eponymous show, The Rich Eisen Show, he predicted that the four-time MVP will add a collection of hardware to his trophy case that no other player has ever collected in a single season (h/t Tyler Greenawalt of The Sporting News):
“Aaron Rodgers becomes the first player in NFL history to win Comeback of the Year, Most Valuable Player of the regular season and Most Valuable Player of the Super Bowl in the same season,” Eisen said Wednesday on his show. “… And just to put the cherry on top: Breece Hall is Offensive Player of the Year to boot. He shows and shows out and he becomes the Christian McCaffrey, if you will, of the Jets,” Eisen said.
Since the Comeback Player of the Year award was first given out in 1963, there have only been four players that have won a Super Bowl MVP, in Drew Brees (2004), Tom Brady (2009), Peyton Manning (2012), and Joe Flacco (2023). Only Moore, Brady, and Brees have a regular season MVP along with that, but none of them obtained all three awards in the same season.
Rodgers is due for a resurgence in New York in 2024. He’ll be a major candidate for Comeback Player of the Year just off of missing 16 games last year alone. Even if he does not produce an MVP-caliber outing, a 3,500-plus yard showing with a high completion percentage and a winning percentage that matches it could propel him to a win.
As for NFL MVP, the 40-year-old has never had a season where he’s played in at least 15 games where he failed to put up at least 3,695 passing yards. With a fortified offensive line, Rodgers will have a multitude of options on the outside, in the slot, and in the backfield that will make his life easy on offense.
Rodgers could finish as a finalist for the league’s top individual honor should he flirt with 4,000 yards yet again, or even find it faithful, and position the Jets to capture the AFC East crown, which will likely take at least 11 wins like the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins racked up in 2023 atop the division.
As for Eisen’s prediction on Hall, the Jets’ featured back is expected to further emerge as a star rusher but has big shoes to fill to unseat McCaffrey, whose 1,459 rush yards for the San Francisco 49ers in the last campaign earned him the Rushing Title. Though, a 1,000-plus-yard rushing season is well in reach for him, as he put up 994 rush yards and five rush TDs in 2023 on 223 attempts and will have a more spread-out offense next year, barring injury.
