PFF names New York Giants’ offensive catalyst for the 2022 season

If New York Giants sophomore receiver Kadarius Toney can maintain his health for the 2022 season, there is no doubt he could become the team’s best option in the passing game.

Quarterback Daniel Jones is set to have a far more detailed offense that manufactures production on screen passes and short route concepts. That would indicate that Toney and rookie Wan’Dale Robinson will be heavily involved in the team’s system.

The New York Giants have something special in Kadarius Toney:

Last year, Toney picked up 420 yards on a 68.4% catch rate. He averaged 10.8 yards per reception but was lethal when catching passes 0–9 yards away from the line of scrimmage. In fact, 213 yards of his total came in that area. What is most impressive is the 5.3 yards he picked up after the catch. He averaged 10.1 yards on receptions in that space, showcasing how shifty he is in the open field.

Toney earned 12 missed tackles forced during his rookie campaign, including five against the New Orleans Saints and three against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 5. In those two games combined, he picked up 13 first downs, including eight against Dallas in a 189-yard performance.

When healthy, there may not be a more lethal playmaker on the Giants’ offense than Kadarius Toney, PFF confirms:

X factor for 2022: Wide receiver Kadarius Toney has had an eventful first year-plus in the NFL, including being at the center of trade rumors earlier this offseason that have since died down. When he was on the field as a rookie last season, Toney looked like the dynamic playmaker the Giants drafted him in the first round to be. He was one of just 15 wide receivers in the league to average over 2 receiving yards per route run on at least 100 routes. The issue seems to be him staying on the field. Toney sat out OTAs following a minor arthroscopic surgery that he had on a knee this offseason.

Following the 2021 season, Toney had a minor arthroscopic surgery on his knee, which limited his participation in drills this off-season.

Kadarius has been wearing a red shirt, staying away from team drills while his knee rehabilitates. However, he is on track to participate during training camp barring any setbacks.

New head coach Brian Daboll has changed the way the Giants approach injuries. Hopefully, this will help maintain Toney’s body a bit better moving forward.
