Good Morning, New York Giants Fans!

After dominating the first half a 23-17 loss the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night, the New York Giants proceeded to earn just 30 yards in the second half.

The Eagles featured third-string receivers and a slew of tight ends to compensate for their lack of talent on offense, and that seemed to be enough to tackle a porous Giants defense who entered the game ranking 23rd in the league. The lack of resiliency from the entire team against an Eagles unit that was booed off the field earlier in the game was telling of head coach Pat Shurmur’s influence on his players.

In a game where Eli Manning was fighting for a victory to go out on a high note, the Giants once again faltered in the face of adversity. That’s the biggest concern here, though, the team’s inability to come away with a win after leading 17-3 at the half. Wide receiver, Darius Slayton, who started the game with two scores and over 100 yards, was barely targeted in the second half.

Shurmur stated after the game that they weren’t avoiding him but instead couldn’t stay on the field long enough to get him the ball. One could argue he had three plays to get Slayton the ball on every attempted drive, but still only managed to target him twice in the passing game.

Overall, Shurmur continues to make unreasonable calls, specifically regarding time management and personnel decisions. General manager Dave Gettleman must take some responsibility for his team’s lackluster performances, right along with Shurmur. His intention to field a competitive team during a complete rebuild has backfired, and they have focused primarily on developing their youth players. My primary concern is not their youth agenda, but Shurmur continues to make bone-headed in-game mistakes, causing his team chances at putting points on the board.

Over the last five games, the Giants have recorded 20 points or more just once.
