The NFL trade deadline ends at 4 PM on Tuesday afternoon, providing the New York Giants just a few more hours to bolster their offensive unit. Coming off a disappointing loss to the Seattle Seahawks prior to their Week 9 BYE, it’s painfully obvious they need support.

General manager Joe Schoen has been eyeing a few receivers on the open market, but the desire is more pressing than ever after losing tight end Daniel Bellinger, which proved to be a significant casualty against Seattle. Without his run-blocking prowess and receiving capabilities, the Giants looked completely one-dimensional, if not no-dimensional.

Up to this point, Big Blue’s top receiver has been Darius Slayton, who’s hauled in 16 receptions for 232 yards and a score over seven games played. His impact has been solid despite starting the season in the doghouse and trying to earn his way back onto the top team. Head coach Brian Daboll had no choice but to begin utilizing him as a prominent receiver, but he’s answered the call despite a few drops.

The Giants have been easing second-round pick Wan’Dale Robinson into the system, but he is still trying to carve out a role after missing several games due to an MCL sprain. With another receiver to command attention, the Giants can begin scheming the ball to some of their more prominent playmakers, notably Saquon Barkley, Robinson, and Slayton.

The New York Giants have been linked but to no avail:

Schoen has been connected to several wideouts, notably Jerry Jeudy, Brandin Cooks, and Chase Claypool. However, all three are expected to garner significant draft capital, something that the Giants’ first-year GM doesn’t want to do.

Ultimately, he values his picks too much and needs them to continue building the foundation of the team. The Giants have outplayed expectations up to this point, but injuries have continued to demoralize their impact.

If the Giants can find a solid receiver still on his rookie contract without having to overpay in draft capital, I wouldn’t be surprised if they made a move. However, they have been quite silent about any developing trade talks.
