The New York Giants have found their next play-caller for Jaxson Dart and the offense. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Giants are hiring former Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy to lead their offense under John Harbaugh.

Following the sudden pivot of Todd Monken to Cleveland, the Giants swung back toward the Andy Reid coaching tree to find a veteran play-caller with Super Bowl pedigree. Nagy, who spent the last three seasons coaching Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City, now brings his offensive philosophy to the Big Apple, tasking himself with the most important project in the building: the Year 2 ascension of Jaxson Dart.

During his second stint in Kansas City (2022–2025), Nagy helped pilot an offense that won two Super Bowls and consistently ranked in the top 10 in EPA per play. While he didn’t hold primary play-calling duties under Andy Reid, he held an influence on the Chiefs’ red-zone creativity and third-down efficiency.

By hiring an experienced playcaller like Nagy, Harbaugh is betting that Nagy can translate those championship-level habits to Dart, who PFF recently named a premier 2026 breakout candidate.

Nagy is as experienced as they come. He was the Chicago Bears’ head coach from 2018 to 2021 and has been an offensive coordinator for the Chiefs in two separate stints and five total seasons (2016-2017, 2023-2025).

Giants Hoping Nagy Can Develop Dart

Nagy played an integral role in the development of Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes.

“I love Coach Nagy… He gave me a lot of ideas to be better as a person and as a quarterback… Wishing him the best throughout this head-coaching process,” Mahomes said

For Giants fans, the hope is that Nagy can be a reliable teacher who knows how to handle the development of a young franchise QB. As Dart prepares for a pivotal Year 2 breakout, having a coordinator who already has the seal of approval from No. 15 in Kansas City is exciting.

Nagy’s offenses have stalled out in the past, particularly when he was calling plays as the head coach in Chicago. However, that team had issues under center. The hope is that the presence of Dart allows Nagy and the Giants’ offense to find sustained success.
