Following the New York Mets series victory over the Miami Marlins, the blue and orange welcomed the San Diego Padres to Citi Field for a three-game set.

The Mets sweep the San Diego Padres

J.D. Martinez would open the scoring in game one with a two-RBI double in the bottom of the third, and that would be all the Mets would need as the blue and orange would shut down the Padres bats and capture game one 2-1. The Mets’ pitching staff kept the Padres’ bats quiet again as the blue and orange won game two 5-1.

The Padres’ dangerous lineup finally woke up in game three, but the Mets’ bats were even hotter as Pete Alonso drove in five runs, and the blue and orange would secure the sweep with an 11-6 victory.

Following a solid final two games against the Marlins, including his first career walk-off home run, Martinez carried his hot bat into the series with the Padres.

The 36-year-old went 6-for-9 in the series with two home runs and six RBIs while walking five times. At one point, Martinez got on base in 10 straight plate appearances, which is tied with Robinson Canó for the second-longest streak in franchise history. The Mets may just be turning their season around, and Martinez’s recent run is a big part of the reason why.

Sean Manaea shoves

After getting rocked in back-to-back starts, Sean Manaea bounced back and had a strong outing against the Padres. Manaea went five strong innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out seven.

The 32-year-old is a candidate to get traded if the Mets season heads south, and if he can parlay this performance into a couple of solid outings, could yield a nice return for the blue and orange.

Brandon Nimmo bounces back

No Met has struggled more recently than Brandon Nimmo, but the 31-year-old may be breaking out of his slump.

Nimmo went 7-for-13 with a double and three RBIs against the Padres. The Wyoming native had multiple hits in each game of the series. With recent concerns that Nimmo may be potentially experiencing post-concussion syndrome resulting in his struggles, this past weekend’s performance could alleviate those fears for the time being.
