The New York Knicks acquiring Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets is the talk of the town, but reinforcing the roster with confident depth pieces remains a priority. While the starting five might be one of the best in basketball, the Knicks still need a solid ball handler behind Jalen Brunson, who can control the offense and offer decent performance.

Addressing the Backup Point Guard Role

Ultimately, the Knicks tried to utilize Miles McBride in that role this past season, but his playmaking qualities are still underdeveloped. However, according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, the Knicks have been mentioned as a potential suitor for veteran point guard Kyle Lowry.

Kyle Lowry: A Veteran Addition at a Bargain for the Knicks

Lowry signed a one-year, $2.8 million deal last offseason with Philadelphia, and since he’ll be 38 years old, the Knicks can likely bring him in at an extremely low price. The veteran guard produced 8.1 points, three rebounds, and 4.2 assists this past season over 28.2 minutes per game. He shot 43.2% from the field and hit 39.2% from downtown, showcasing solid efficiency despite a lack of athleticism at this point in his career.

Lowry’s Role and Potential Impact

Lowry isn’t going to offer much defensively, but he can handle the rock and distribute the ball efficiently to the primary scorers. If Brunson goes down for any reason, Tom Thibodeau would probably prefer to have a veteran presence available, and Lowry is a cheap option to consider, coming off a decent season behind Tyrese Maxey with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Strategic Depth Moves Enhance Team Flexibility

A move like this would allow the Knicks to be more creative with how they deploy McBride and have assurances at point guard in a competitive season.
