With much speculation on who will start at quarterback for the New York Jets in Week 1, we finally have an official answer.
Joe Flacco will start Week 1 for the Jets:
Joe Flacco will get the start against his former team to ring in the 2022 season.
This was certainly something that could have gone either way. The timeline of Zach Wilson’s injury made his return to start the regular season possible but not a guarantee either.
- Unheralded Jets free-agent signing has quietly become one of the team’s best players in 2025
- Could the Jets run it back with Aaron Rodgers in 2025 amidst his recent resurgence?
- Jets reportedly linked to several unemployed general manager candidates
Flacco got more than enough time in training camp to work with the starters and played a good chunk in the final preseason game. He showed some great things throughout camp and has a wealth of experience to help lead this offense. His command and ability to simply be efficient within the structure of the offense give Flacco what he needs to be successful in this one.
As mentioned by the Jets from the start, they were never going to rush the return of Wilson. While he is progressing well and has been participating in some recent workouts, the Jets want him at 100% before putting him back out there.
This long-awaited news now provides the Jets with some time knowing who it will be leading up to the game. Hopefully, Flacco plays like he did in camp this summer and has the Jets in a position to win this game.
