The New York Jets addressed a critical need by drafting Penn State standout offensive tackle Olu Fashanu, a move aimed at fortifying a position that has been a weak spot in recent years. The 21-year-old, who was chosen 11th overall, enters the NFL following an impressive college season where he played 722 snaps, allowed just 10 pressures, and remarkably, surrendered zero sacks.
Jets Bolster Offensive Line with Key Draft Pick
As the Jets focus on building a championship-caliber team, they also fielded significant trade interest. General Manager Joe Douglas received an enticing proposal from the Los Angeles Rams, who expressed a desire to move up in the draft.
The Rams ultimately stayed at the 19th overall pick, selecting Florida State pass-rusher Jared Verse, but not before showing interest in jumping to the 10th pick, a position the Jets moved from to secure Fashanu at 11th.
The Rams’ offer included their first and second-round picks to advance nine spots, likely targeting Georgia tight end Brock Bowers, whom they speculated would bolster their offense, possibly aiming to enhance protection for quarterback Matt Stafford.
Interestingly, the Jets themselves considered drafting Bowers to add another dynamic weapon to their offense.

However, prioritizing the offensive line was paramount for the Jets, who faced significant challenges last season, ranking 30th in pass protection with 50 sacks and 280 pressures allowed. With injuries plaguing their line, Douglas was determined not to allow a repeat of those issues in 2024, making the decision to invest in Fashanu a strategic move to secure long-term stability at the tackle position.
