Good Morning, New York Giants Fans!

There wasn’t anyone more happy for Daniel Jones receiving the nod as the starting quarterback for the New York Giants on Sunday than star running back, Saquon Barkley.

The sophomore player was nothing but smiles in regards to Jones being named the start against the Tampa Bay Buccanneers, another struggling team that will present a challenge, but a lesser one compared to opponents like the Dallas Cowboys.

Jones can extend drives with his legs and offer a different look; one teams haven’t seen from the Giants in 15 years. The Giants and head coach Pat Shurmur will finally have the green light to open up their playbook and utilize Daniel’s mobility in different ways. Expect to see increased RPOs from the offense and better efficiency on third-downs.

However, the confidence Barkley has in Jones was headline-worthy on Thursday afternoon.

He stated:

Daniel being named the starter, I’m happy for him,” Barkley said. “You train your whole life and work your whole life to be playing in the NFL, and it’s actually going to be happening for him this week. I know he’s been working his butt off, extra work with film, doing a great job at practice, and listening to Eli, so I’m excited for him.

He continued to break down the feeling of progression and what it’s like for a rookie:

“I’m excited, but just more excited for him,” Barkley said of Jones. “I know everyone is making a big deal that he’s the starting quarterback of New York, but I don’t think you guys (reporters) really understand how much effort and hard work you put in since you’re a little kid to get to this moment and get to this position. Yes, it hits you when you get drafted. Yes, it hits you when you hit preseason. But when you actually step on that field and you’re a starting quarterback, you just kind of reflect on all of the hard work that you’ve put in, and all of the adversity you’ve faced. I’m really just more excited for him to go out there and get his first start. I’m going to do whatever it takes, and I know we’re all going to do whatever it takes, to try to have his first start go the way we all want it to go. Our mindset this week is winning.
