New York Giants News, 8/30 – Giants wide receiver saves job with one play

New York Giants, Golden Tate

Good Morning, New York Giants Fans!

If only the preseason actually meant something the Giants would be 4-0 and heading towards a playoff birth. Unfortunately, that’s not the case, and the regular season will commence next Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington.

Despite the lack of value the preseason provided in the wins category, several players elevated their games and proved they can be impact players for the Giants moving forward. One of those players, wide receiver Allonzo Russell, capped off Thursday’s win with a fantastic catch with time running out to seal to win.

On a throw from Kyle Lauletta, Russell posted up in the end zone with single coverage to his advantage and came down with the ball. Fellow teammate Brittan Golden did not play in the game due to a calf injury which gave Allonzo a final opportunity to secure himself a spot on the active roster.

A statement game for Russell, who finished with five receptions for 92-yards and two touchdowns. With cuts going down on Saturday by 4PM, the veteran wideout has earned himself another chance to offer value during the 2019 season.

He seems to be a solid option in the red zone and has the frame to grab jump balls in coverage. He did have a drop and some unsure catches, but those issues alleviated with his touchdown catch to win the game.
