Good Morning, New York Giants Fans!

The Giants have veteran quarterback Eli Manning backed up into a corner. Not only is he on the final year of his contract, but his successor is in the building and seemingly ready to take over as soon as possible. To add more factors into the mix, the Giants won’t give him more than $20 million on an extension given his value. If they offer him a substantial amount of money, general manager Dave Gettleman would only be hurting himself.

The 2020 available cap-space would take a significant hit, which would hurt the ability for the Giants to bring in a new right tackle and premium edge rusher. Potentially even a top safety/cornerback.

Manning holds the keys to the future, and he’s not ready to give them up unless forced to do so. The chances of Manning playing for another team is slim to none, which puts the Giants in an interesting position as well. They either have to force him to retire or continue playing him as the starter, because we all know Eli isn’t going to sit quietly in a backup role.

However, in the scenario that Manning performs well this season, bringing him back might not be a terrible idea, but at some point, the Giants have to begin building around Jones. Waiting several seasons and burning his rookie deal is not the ideal way to reach a state of success, but the Giants may carry out the “Green Bay model.”

Next offseason will undoubtedly be an interesting one.
