Good Morning, New York Giants Fans!

There was something eerie about Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins, as veteran quarterback Eli Manning of the New York Giants went about his daily routine as if it would be his last.

The Giants are planning to move on from Eli after the 2019 season, shedding his $26.2 million cap-hit and moving towards a future that includes Daniel Jones under center. The 16-year vet still has some of the classic mojo he once projected on a weekly basis nearly a decade ago. He has a knack for elevating the players around him see Odell Beckham Jr.

However, running back Saquon Barkley is another one of the lucky few that have seen incredible starts to their career with Manning under center. After 11 straight weeks of landing under 100 rushing yards and seven weeks without hitting paydirt, the former ROTY logged 112 yards on the ground and two touchdowns. This came one week after Manning found himself filling in for the injured Jones.

Manning might have enjoyed his last game in blue on Sunday against Miami, and he went out the right way with a victory, but is it possible Barkley might suffer the consequences of his departure?

Head coach Pat Shurmur has advocated for Jones’ ability to run-check and move through his progressions at the line of scrimmage. Still, it’s clear that Manning has a knack for audibling into favorable running plays to open up holes in the defense.

I would expect Jones to return in 2020 with a better understanding of the NFL and deciphering coverages at the LOS, which will ultimately help Barkley reach his potential in year three.
