New York Giants news, 12/10 – The beaming light from a lost 2019 season

Good Morning, New York Giants Fans!

The New York Giants lost another heartbreaking game to the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night, falling 23-17. The Giants failed to stop the Eagles in overtime on their very first possession, letting them march 75 yards on 8 plays, as Carson Wentz found Zach Ertz for the score to seal the win.

Despite the loss, the first half of the game was in favor of the New York Giants. Eli Manning started with two touchdowns and 179 yards before being shut down in the second half, gaining only 24 total yards through the air. Running back Saquon Barkley once again struggled to get things going on the ground, tallying 17 carries for 66 yards and 3.9 yards per carry.

However, one player managed to leave his mark on the game. Rookie wide receiver Daria Slayton hauled two touchdowns and 154 yards on five receptions, displaying a unique blend of elusiveness and versatility with his route running. His first touchdown came on a hook route that saw him break a tackle and run 28 yards for the score.

Slayton has had a fantastic rookie season, going into Monday nights game with 505 yards and five touchdowns. He now has 659 total yards and seven touchdowns on the season.

When Slayton was first drafted by the Giants in the fifth round last off-season, he started his career dropping passes left and right in rookie camp. Since then, he has had some of the best hands on the team and has utilized his elite speed to take advantage of opposing secondaries. His chemistry with Daniel Jones has been impressive, but he looked just as good with Eli Manning under center. This indicates that his progression is derived from his efforts and refinement during his rookie year. This is an excellent sign of development, and we should be excited about his potential moving forward.
