Good Morning, New York Giants Fans!
When New York Giants receiver Sterling Shepard was initially ruled out with his second concussion of the season in week six, most figured he would be sidelined for a minimum of three weeks. His expected return this week came after several non-contact practices and individual drills.
On Saturday, though, he reported that he felt ill, which sent him back into the concussion protocol, putting the remainder of his season in jeopardy. Shepard will now miss week nine and could be out for an extended period. Long-term health is the priority with the Giants’ best receiver.
At 2-6 on the season, the Giants don’t need to risk the health of Shepard and a potential third concussion. Playing it safe with Sterling is the priority moving forward, meaning the next time we see him could be in 2020.
Leonard Williams talks heating up:
There’s no question general manager Dave Gettleman is keen on re-signing newly acquired defensive lineman, Leonard Williams, before free agency next offseason. However, he could be extended much earlier. Rumors have indicated that Gettleman could be looking at Thanksgiving as a deadline for the two sides to complete a deal.
Williams, who hasn’t recorded a sack this season, will come a bit cheaper than a top-notch defensive lineman, considering his lack of production with the Jets. I anticipate he will earn close to $15 million per season, and in a James Bettcher defensive system, he could excel. Of course, it’s too soon to justify his worth, and the New York Giants will take a good look at him over the next few weeks to see how he adjusts in a 3-4 base defense.
I expect him to dominate alongside Dexter Lawrence and B.J. Hill/Dalvin Tomlinson on the interior.
Nonetheless–
