The second practice of the year has come to an end and New York Giants fans should be glad it’s over. Unfortunately, the biggest storyline from practice is the number of injuries that took place. While the amount of injuries that have happened in just 2 practices is concerning there are some silver linings to look at.

Players who stood out:

Lorenzo Carter continued to shine coming off the edge, his quickness is unmatched by the first-team offensive tackles so far. He got home against Eli multiple times today.

Daniel Jones had a very sharp practice, he barely had any incompletions. At one point he completed 8 consecutive passes and some of them were in tight coverage. His passes down the field continue to be on-point.

Michael Thomas showed off some versatility today by getting a would-be sack and deflecting a pass later on.

Oshane Ximines hasn’t done anything spectacular yet but his burst off the line is noticeable. He had a nice play in the backfield on Daniel Jones but was a beneficiary of Jones running toward him.

Alonzo Russell continues to make plays and seems to have a decent connection with Daniel Jones. The two of them were on the same page again today for a few more completions.

Any defensive back who’s blitzing – Whether it’s Jabrill Peppers, Julian Love, or Michael Thomas these defensive back blitz packages look good and all 3 of them have met Manning in the backfield so far.

Camp Battles:

Tae Davis and BJ Goodson continue to have a pretty even rotation. This battle could take weeks to sort itself out.

Cody Latimer recently lost his main competition due to injuries at the wide receiver position. The team will most likely depend on him as a deep threat early on in 2019.

Grant Haley continued to be the primary nickel corner but it might be Julian Love’s job to lose if Haley misses time.

Markus Golden and Kareem Martin were rotating as well but Martin could be locked into a starting role for a while if Golden needs to miss any time.

Bumps and Bruises:

Markus Golden is the one to pay most attention to, he was carted off the field and has a history with ACL injuries.

Haley didn’t look good either as he limped off the field during practice.

Brittain Golden also got hurt after making a big play down the field.

On a positive note, Sterling Shepard was running through individual drills and was catching a tennis ball with his good hand. There are already hopes for him to be a full-go before camp ends.

Final Thoughts:

The injuries are probably the most impactful news from today’s practice but it’s a shame to have them overshadow Daniel Jones’ amazing performance. He didn’t look like a rookie today and thrived the way a top-shelf quarterback prospect should against backups. The next time the New York Giants practice they will be fully padded and there will be a lot more to see in the trenches, we can only hope they start to get lucky on the injury front.
