The New York Giants are dealing with a few injuries at the running back position, with Gary Brightwell and Eric Gray both set to miss time after the team’s Week 7 win.
With an open spot behind Saquon Barkley and Matt Breida, the front office elected to bring in a familiar face, Jashaun Corbin, per Pat Leonard of the NYDN.
Corbin is a promising young running back at 23 years old who has spent two seasons on the Giants’ practice squad. He’s primarily featured during the preseason, enjoying only 48 snaps with 37 rushing attempts, tallying 124 yards and three touchdowns.

The Giants Hope They Don’t Need to Use Jashaun Corbin
Unfortunately, with Barkley leading the way in the running back room, Big Blue didn’t have a pressing need for Corbin, who is more of a change-of-pace back than an every-down runner.
At 5-foot-11 and 221 pounds, Corbin is a decent receiving option who can wiggle his way for extra yards but doesn’t have the power to push the pile. The former undrafted back out of Florida State will get his opportunity to feature with the Giants, but it’s unlikely he will play unless an injury to Barkley or Breida occurs.
Nonetheless, the Giants are looking ahead to Week 8 against the New York Jets, a team that has a dominant defense but could be without two of their top cornerbacks.
Quarterback Daniel Jones is trying to work his way back into the conversation after a neck injury, but it is possible that the medical staff won’t clear him in time, and the team will have to stick with backup Tyrod Taylor for one more week. Taylor has been excellent at times, navigating pressure and helping bring stability to the offense in a time of need.
