The New York Giants’ offense could be in line for a bump in big-play conversions with the way one of their leaders has been talking of late.
Giants quarterback Daniel Jones recently had this to say to the “Giants Huddle” podcast about his and the team’s personal goal to be better on third down and get the ball down the field with more electricity next season (h/t Dan Benton of Giants Wire):
“Making sure we’re better on third down. Making sure we’re staying on the field and putting together long drives,” Jones said. “We’re trying to improve (and) create explosive plays and get the ball down the field.”
“Hitting the chances that we get. That’s throwing the ball accurately, letting guys run, and taking advantage of the shots we have. Those are things we’re always working on but we’ve got a lot of guys that can make big plays.”
How the Giants did in big-play opportunities in 2023
The Giants finished with 44 conversions of 20 or more yards in the air last season. That was the seventh-fewest completions in the NFL. They also notched seven 40-plus yard conversions, which was the fifth-fewest on the previous campaign.
Which Giants contributors can help the offense get the ball downfield more in 2024?
The question that Jones and the coaching staff will have to ask themselves is, which newcomer on the roster can help them overcome that hurdle in 2024? The obvious answer is rookie WR Malik Nabers. The LSU product averaged 17.6 yards per reception in his final season with the Tigers in 2023. Next to him, WR Jalin Hyatt will also get time to show what he’s got after leading the Giants with 16.2 yards per reception and a 57.5 percent catch percentage in his rookie 2023 outing.
WR Wan’Dale Robinson’s exceptional hands will allow Jones to manage the field in all zones and help his dynamic outside wideouts break free downfield. WR Darius Slayton’s ability to pile on receiving yards will show defenses another talented face at the line of scrimmage and keep secondaries guessing.

Daniel Jones, the backfield, and the offensive line will help the Giants explode next season
Jones will be healthy in 2024 after tearing his ACL last season. He has the confidence of the franchise as the starter for now, and will hope that his average yards per attempt revert back to his career-high 6.9 yards average in 2022 and not his career-low 4.2 yards in 2023. With RB Devin Singletary in town to spell for the departed Saquon Barkley, and a strengthened offensive line, the Giants will have their fair share of opportunities to jolt their offense next year and complete more big gains, which would only work toward them winning more games on the campaign.
