The New York Giants are not finished scouting potential additions to their secondary. With Adoree’ Jackson and Xavier McKinney leaving in free agency, the Giants have significantly rejuvenated their lineup this off-season. They selected Tyler Nubin from Minnesota in the second round and are counting on their homegrown talents to vie for the CB2 position.
The Giants Could Use Another Veteran Piece
However, the team recently brought in an intriguing defensive back for a visit. Joshua Kalu, a 28-year-old who went undrafted in 2018, visited the Giants on Wednesday. Having previously played under Shane Bowen with the Tennessee Titans, Kalu’s connection to the coaching staff is evident.
Although Kalu did not play last season, having spent time on the practice squads of the Washington Commanders and the Miami Dolphins, he logged 494 snaps in 2022 and delivered several solid performances, albeit inconsistently.
Kalu’s experience spans playing slot corner, free safety, and participating on special teams. Given the youthfulness of the Giants’ defensive unit and the number of developmental projects in progress, Kalu’s versatility makes him a potentially valuable asset. At the very least, he could provide competition during training camp and offer some value on special teams in a worst-case scenario.
This upcoming season holds high expectations for Cor’Dale Flott, the Giants’ former third-round pick from LSU, who is anticipated to make significant strides in his development. The ideal scenario would see him securing the starting corner spot opposite Deonte Banks.

The team also drafted Andru Phillips from Kentucky and retains Nick McCloud as a depth option. Both could challenge Flott for the starting position. While opening the secondary to numerous position battles could present challenges, the Giants have also heavily invested in bolstering their pass rush, which should offer some compensation.
