
In the main event of UFC 311, we saw a lightweight title fight that came together in a little less than 24 hours. Lightweight champion and current P4P king Islam Makhachev (26-1) took on Renato Moicano (20-5-1). Originally, Moicano was supposed to face Beneil Dariush while Makhachev was supposed to face Arman Tsarukyan.
However, yesterday Arman Tsarukyan suffered a back injury and had to pull out of the title fight. Renato Moicano made championship weight and he was ready to step in after winning four straight leading up to tonight. He had a tall order in the form of the champion.
Islam Makhachev was looking to make history at UFC 311. He was looking to become the first lightweight champion with four successful title defenses. He was coming off his submission win over Dustin Poirier last June and tonight he was looking to run through “Money” Moicano.

Round 1
The UFC 311 main event starts with no touch of the gloves. Moicano presses forward and immediately throws a leg kick. Moicano trying to use pressure early on and Makhachev is composed on the outside. Moicano is throwing heavy shots early on. He’s throwing caution to the wind a little in the opening minute.
Nasty body kick lands for Makhachev. Nice jab lands for Moicano but he’s stiffened up a bit by a left from Makhachev. Moicano lands big and either Makhachev slipped or that was a knockdown. The crowd is going crazy and now a huge power takedown from the champion.
Makhachev is in half guard and you can tell that he’s trying to set something up. Moicano forces a scramble but Makhachev immediately jumps on the d’arce. It’s in and Moicano is forced to tap. Moicano made it interesting for a minute but Islam Makhachev retains at UFC 311.
