The New York Yankees embarrassed the Boston Red Sox on Friday evening by a score of 12–5. The Yankees have now won three consecutive games, showcasing offensive dominance.

Two days ago, they annihilated the Pittsburgh Pirates 16–0, tallying a grand slam, their third in two games against the Red Sox (not counting tonight), and enjoyed another embarrassment of riches at the halfway point in a four-game series.

Starter Nestor Cortes was on the mound for the Yankees, having a tumultuous day despite the team’s run production. Over 3.2 innings, Cortes gave up eight hits and four earned runs before being pulled. There was a concern that the game could’ve been blown wide open if Cortes wasn’t taken out before things accumulated.

The bullpen stepped up valiantly, with Miguel Castro striking out three batters over 1.1 innings. Castro has been phenomenal lately, lowering his ERA to 3.33 on the season.

Albert Abreu was a bit shaky, being pulled after 0.2 innings, giving up three hits and an earned run. However, Lucas Luetge went 3.0 innings, giving up just one hit and striking out four batters.

The Yankees have one player on fire lately:

One of the most impressive players over this short winning streak has been Josh Donaldson, who tallied another home run. He launched a three-run blast in the top of the 1st inning, driving in Matt Carpenter and Gleyber Torres. Donaldson now has seven RBIs in his last two games combined, including two homers. He now features a .232 average with nine home runs this season.

Slugger Aaron Judge returned from a lower back injury which he deemed precautionary after Thursday’s win. Manager Aaron Boone wanted to take every opportunity to make sure the Yankees’ best player this season remains healthy. Judge struggled in his return, though, striking out three times and grounding out twice over five at-bats.

Offensively, the Yankees recorded 12 hits, seven walks, and eight strikeouts. They completely demoralized Boston starter Conner Seabold. Seabold lasted just 2.2 innings, giving up nine hits and seven earned runs, elevating his ERA to 11.91 on the season.

The Yankees have two more games against Boston this weekend before traveling back to the Bronx to face off against Cincinnati. Jordan Montgomery will get a start on Saturday at 7:15 PM, coming off a great performance against the Guardians on July 3, giving up just one run over five innings of action.
