The Yankees have started off the 2022 season with a fantastic bill of health, specifically with their starters. However, the team announced that outfielder Tim Locastro will be placed on the 10-day injured list with a left latissimus dorsi strain.
With a strained lat, swinging the bat is a bit more tumultuous. Losing Locastro will definitely have its downfalls given his fantastic defensive capabilities and solid offensive start to the season.
Locastro is hitting .231 with one homer and two RBIs but has already stolen four bases this season, nearly matching his five stolen bases over 64 games last year.
With the Yankees playing a doubleheader on Sunday to make up the two missed games due to inclement weather against the Texas Rangers, their schedule is quite intimidating. This was, unfortunately, a poor time for Locastro to get placed on the injured list, and the subsequent move was calling up Estevan Florial to the majors.

Recalled RHP Ron Marinaccio (#97) from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Appointed OF Estevan Florial (#90) as the “27-man” for today’s doubleheader.
This season, Florial has spent 22 games in Triple-A with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He’s actually performing quite well, hitting .272 with two homers and nine RBIs, hosting a 28.7% strikeout rate and 13.8% walk rate.
Defensively, Florial has accumulated 157.2 innings in centerfield this season, allowing one error. Hopefully, Estevan, who is now 24 years old, can showcase a bit more consistency at the Major League level. The Yankees have been waiting for quite some time for him to take the step forward and make an impact at the top, but injuries have significantly limited his progression over the past few seasons.
In addition, the Yankees also called up Ron Marinaccio, who was sent down after tough performances against the Toronto Blue Jays and Cleveland Guardians late last month. Over those two games combined, he allowed six hits and five earned runs over 1.2 innings. Hopefully, he can offer a bit more efficiency during his second stint with the Yankees.
