Just as the vibes seemed to finally be shifting, Meredith Marakovits reported after today’s game that New York Yankees bullpen arm Scott Effross is dealing with some shoulder stiffness and fatigue following yesterday’s game.
As we recall, Ron Marinaccio was sidelined for nearly an entire month with shoulder fatigue in June, so hopefully Effross doesn’t have to be shut down, and this is more of a day-to-day thing that the team will monitor.
How the Yankees will supplement the loss of Scott Effross:
Effross’ injury means someone is going to have to step-up and take a bulk of the high leverage situations, and today Lou Trivino was that guy. If the team can use him for multiple innings, that would be huge considering their go-to is multi-inning guy is Lucas Luetge.
- Yankees could have a perfect off-season with one extremely lucky move
- 3 potential infield solutions for the Yankees
- Yankees could turn to familiar face in reunion with relief arm
Marinaccio didn’t pitch today because, even though he only threw a combined 18 pitches, he pitched both days prior. The team is already stretched out and missing some key bullpen pieces, but hopefully Effross will just need a week or two to reset.
The Yankees haven’t been playing great baseball as of late, however, today the vibes seemed to shift drastically on Paul O’Neil Day.
We saw Trivino channel his inner warrior and pitch 2.1 high-leverage and very important innings for the Yankees. With Effross now being injured, Aroldis Chapman, Jonathan Loiasiga, and Wandy Peralta all must do better than what they’ve been doing. It’ll be all hands on deck, and we’ll see who slots in in Effross’ absence.
