When the New York Yankees needed him most, shortstop Gleyber Torres answered the call. With Washington Nationals pitcher Patrick Corbin absolutely dominating the Yankees through seven innings, a spark was needed to reinvigorate the team.
Prior to Torres’ home run, Corbin had lasted 6.1 innings, allowing just one run and logging eight strikeouts. Torres hit earned his first hit earlier on in the top of the fourth, giving the Yankees their first hit of the game and his first hit of the season.
However, the offensive spark didn’t end there, as Luke Voit followed closely behind with an absolute piss missile of a shot to left field, bolting into the first row of seats. The Bombers desperately needed some action on a hot, sunny day in the nation’s capital.
