New York Yankees Recap: Yankees take their 5th series in a row with win over the O’s

Game two of the New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles’ three-game set was played tonight at Baltimore’s Orioles Park at Camden Yards. The Yankees Domingo German faced the Orioles’ Jorge Lopez. The game was played without Gleyber Torres (Covid 19), Aaron Hicks (wrist), and Giancarlo Stanton (quad injury). The Yankees won the game 8-2.

In the first inning, Lopez faced DJ LeMahieu, who walked on four pitches. Luke Voit searching for his first hit of the season, got it in the first inning, advancing DJ to second. Aaron Judge with no outs and two on walked. Gio Urshela struck out. A passed ball scored DJ LeMahieu. Gary Sanchez got a two-run single scoring Voit and Judge. Brett Gardner struck out. A pitch hit Clint Frazier and the umpire. Frazier took first, and Sanchez advanced to second. Miguel Andujar ground out to third, but the Yankees pick up three runs in the top of the first.

At the bottom, Domingo German faced Cedric Mullins, who struck out. Austin Hays struct out. Trey Mancini flew out to Frazier in right. At the top of the second, Wade reached on a bad throw. Wade got caught stealing. LeMahieu singled. Voit struck out. Judge nailed a two-run home run to left. Urshela singled to left field. Gary Sanchez went down looking. New York Yankees 5 and the Orioles 0.

At the bottom of the second, DJ Stewart flew out to Gardner in center. Freddie Galvis flew out to Andujar in left. Pedro Severino ground out to Tyler Wade to end the inning. Yankees 5 Orioles 0.

Brett Gardner led off the third inning by grounding out to first. Clint Frazier, who was hit by a pitch in the first, stuck out swinging. Miguel Andujar hit a foul ball to the moon but then ground out, ending the half. At the bottom, Rio Ruiz singled. Pat Valaika struck out swinging. Cisco doubled to center. Mullins, with one out, walked the bases full. Hays hit into a double play getting German out of trouble. Yanks 5 O’s 0.

To start the fourth, Tyler Wade singled. LeMahieu flew out to center field. Luke Voit hit into a double play to end the half. The bottom of the inning saw Mancini facing German, and he singled to right. Stewart struck out. Glavis hit into a double play to end the inning. Yanks 5 O’s 0.

Aaron Judge led off the fifth with a long out to center. Gio Urshela flew out to right. Gary Sanchez flew out to right to end the top. Pedro Severino led off the bottom by grounding out to Urshela at third. Ruiz struck out swinging. Valaika struck out for a quick 1-2-3 inning for German. Yanks 5 O’s 0.

Gardner led off the sixth inning with a long single to left. Frazier flew out to right. Andujar got his second hit of the year, a single to left. Wade singled and went 3 for 3 loading the bases with Yankee with only one out. Lemahieu faced the new pitcher Tyler Wells who immediately balked in a run. LeMahieu struck out swinging. Voit hit a two-run single driving in Andujar and Wade standing up. Judge with one on and two outs struck out, but the Yankees picked up another 3 runs. New York Yankees 8 Baltimore Orioles 0.

At the bottom of the six-inning, Chance Cisco walked on German 66th pitch of the game. Mullins singled past the diving Wade moving Cisco to second. Hays reached on a fielder’s choice, one out. Mancini ground out, but the Orioles scored a run on the play. Stewart, with two outs, struck out, but the Orioles picked up their first run of the game. Yankees 8 Orioles 1.

The top of the seventh was led off by Gio Urshela, who struck out. Sanchez battled Wells, who walked on the 10th pitch of the at-bat. Gardner stuck out. Frazier ground out to third to end the half. At the bottom, Lucas Luetge took over for German. Freddie Galvis flew out to Gardner in center field. Severino ground out to Wade at short. Ruiz ground out to second for the 1-2-3 inning for Luetge. Yankees 8 Orioles 1.

Leading off the top of the eighth against Shaun Armstong was Manuel Andujar, who struck out. Tyler Wade went down on strikes. LeMahieu grounded out to first base end the half. Pat Valaika led off the bottom against Justin Wilson by popping out to LeMahieu. Cisco popped out to the infield. McKenna ground out to third as the O’s went down in order. Yankees 8 Orioles 1.

Voit led off the ninth grounding out to the infield. Judge singled to left field. Urshela singled to right, moving Judge to second base. Sanchez flew over the left-field wall, but the ball was caught. Gardner flew out to left to end the half for the Yankees. At the bottom of the ninth, with the last licks on the line for the Orioles, Austin Hays with Luis Cessa on the mound took to the plate and hit a single to left. Mountcastle got a base hit. DJ Stewart struck out. Ramon Urias singled driving in Hays. Severino hit into a game-ending double play.

The final score was the New York Yankees 8 and the Baltimore Orioles 2. The winning pitcher was Domingo German, and the loser was Jorge Lopez as the Yankees completed their five-in-a-row series win.
