Tonight the New York Yankees will go for their second sweep of the Red Sox in this shortened season.  The Yankees swept the Red Sox when they met in the July series, and tonight hope to get their second sweep and their sixth win in a row.  The Yankees have not lost a game this season at Yankee Stadium.

After pummeling the Red Sox in the first two games of the series with double-digit wins, the Yankees last night got a 4-2 win over the Red Sox when Mike Ford homered and drove in 3 runs in the game.  Aaron Hicks drove in the other run.  The Yankees tonight, like last night, will play the game at the Stadium without the services of Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring), Aaron Judge (calf), and DJ LeMahieu who is on the IL with a thumb sprain.

The Yankees tonight will hope to get off to a quick start, and win in at least five innings, as the weather will most likely be an issue tonight. Last night with showers in the area, the game was completed with just a sprinkle.  Tonight they may not be that lucky.  Showers will again be in the area but will progress to thunderstorms as the game continues.

The New York Yankees will start Jordan Montgomery against the Red Sox. Montgomery is coming off a win against the Atlanta Braves where he looked unhittable for five innings, only to give up a three-run homer in the sixth inning.  It was “Montys” second win of the season.  So far he is 2-1 on the season with an elevated ERA of 5.17.

Montgomery will face lefty Martin Perez of the Red Sox, who is 2-2 with an ERA of 3.38. This is Perez’s first year with the Red Sox after a 10-7 stint with the Minnesota Twins.  Perez has only pitched once at Yankee Stadium, in that came he gave up seven runs in just five innings when he was with the Texas Rangers during 2018.

The Yankees will want to win their seventh game in a row so that they can go into the more difficult series with the Tampa Bay Rays, while on a roll.  In that first game on Tuesday night, Masahiro Tanaka will face the Rays Blake Snell.  The Yankees are presently leading the East Division with a .714 winning percentage.  The Rays are just two games behind, so it should be an exciting series, but this time at Yankee Stadium.  Gerrit Cole is scheduled to start the second game of the series.
