Artemi Panarin extended his point streak to six games as Alexis Lafreniere, Chris Kreider, and Eric Gustafsson scored goals in a 3-1 victory over the Calgary Flames.

Playing in their second game of their longest road trip of the season (five games), the New York Rangers beat the Calgary Flames 3–1 on Tuesday night. It was the first time the team had won consecutive games this season, with the club alternating wins and losses for the first five games.

It was the first time the Rangers had won a game in Calgary in over five years. The Blueshirts were 1-5-1 since their last win at the Saddledome in Calgary in 2017.

Peter Laviolette Sees Room For Improvement

Head coach Peter Laviolette didn’t think last night was an “A-Game” and knows there is much work to do to continue getting wins.

“There’s things that we can definitely do better,” head coach Peter Laviolette said. “I don’t think we were full tilt tonight. I thought we defended too much. When we’re on our game, we’re pressing the issue, we’re forechecking, we’re beating people to pucks. Every game can’t be an A-plus game. You want it to be, and then when it’s not, you try to fix it and correct it so it is an A-game. We’ll do that.”

The Rangers Fell Behind Early But Earned The Victory

The Rangers trailed 1–0 early in the first period but rallied in the second period, scoring all three goals in the stanza.

Lafreniere’s goal, his third of the season, got the Blueshirts on the board 7:38 into the second period. He has found a home on the right side of Artemi Panarin and Filip Chytil.

“The season is still young, but just to get some games with the same guys is really good,” Lafreniere said. “Obviously, Fil and Bread are amazing, so it’s really fun to play with them.”

All three players recorded points in the Rangers’ win.

Igor Shesterkin made 24 saves for his first-ever win against the Flames.

The team heads to Edmonton for a game on Thursday night against the Oilers. Connor McDavid will not play as he is out of the lineup with an upper-body injury.
