The New York Mets extended their win streak to seven games Monday night, making it their longest of the 2022 season. They defeated the Washington Nationals 7-3. The Mets are now 65-37 on the year and improved their division lead to 3.5 games over the Atlanta Braves.
Good enough outing from Max Scherzer
Max Scherzer pitched 6.2 innings and threw 105 pitches for the Mets in this one. His ERA is now 2.13 on the year. Scherzer allowed six hits, three runs, two of which were earned, a home run, and two walks. He recorded five strikeouts and gave the Mets a solid performance to keep the winning streak alive. Scherzer got the win and is now 7-2 on the season.
Joely Rodriguez came in to finish the seventh and started the eighth. He gave up one walk but threw 15 pitches and got three outs for the Mets in this one. Adam Ottavino finished this one by getting the final four outs. He had one strikeout and threw 19 pitches. Between Rodriguez and Ottavino, no base hits were given up.

Another great offensive performance
The Mets followed up their 19-hit game from yesterday with 13 in this one. They got hits from seven different players. The catalyst in this one, Brandon Nimmo, was fantastic as he went 4-for-5. He scored one run. His batting average for the season is now up to .269.
Pete Alonso, Mark Canha, and Jeff McNeil all had two-hit performances. The other three hits came from Starling Marte, Francisco Lindor, and Tomas Nido.
Alonso and Lindor both hit home runs in this game. Alonso’s was a solo. It was his 27th of the year, and he now has 86 RBIs. Once again, Lindor, with two outs, drove in runs for the Mets with his three-run homer in the sixth inning. Lindor now has 18 home runs and 73 runs batted in, which ranks him sixth in baseball.
The other three runs batted in came from Marte, McNeil, and Nido, who all put together a streak with two outs in the second inning. From this bunch, in particular, McNeil finally seems to fully be back to himself, which is big for the Mets. Marte now has an average of .301 and McNeil .298 on the year.
