When it comes to New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz, much anticipation surrounds his upcoming free agency. Diaz is one of the best closers in baseball, young, likely entering his prime, and a sure thing in a concerning Mets bullpen.

Diaz is so valuable that even with Jacob deGrom’s looming free agency, with his age and dominance, Diaz could wind up as the Mets’ top priority from their own group of free agents.

Latest buzz on Edwin Diaz, Mets sounds optimistic:

Per Michael Marino of Sports Illustrated, the Mets continue to “feel good” about their chances of keeping Diaz, stating there is “too much to lose if both parties were to go their own ways.”

An encouraging update knowing just how important Diaz is to the Mets. Especially, the “too much to lose” aspect to it. In the New York market, at Citi Field, with the fan base and the trumpets, Diaz is beyond salable. The Mets assuredly have a noticeable home-field advantage.

Diaz has an overbearing presence on the mound closing out games. His untouchable slider and 100-plus mile-an-hour heat helped paved the way to a 1.31 ERA and 32 save season.

The hope for the Mets has to be that Diaz’s market does not become anything out of control. If not, the Mets seem willing to pay up to keep Diaz’s services. In turn, Diaz also made known that he would come back to the Mets if the contract adds up. Now, it comes down to the organization and the agents finding a way to make it work.
