The New York Knicks are reportedly open to moving Immanuel Quickley either for a first-round pick or attaching him to unload Evan Fournier’s contract.
A team to keep an eye on are the Dallas Mavericks, who are desperately looking to replace the vacuum left by Jalen Brunson.
According to Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus, “some competing executives agree that the Dallas Mavericks should target Quickley, if available.”
While Quickley has emerged as one of the Knicks’ defensive lynchpins this season, his ceiling is still limited with his bench role. A reason behind Knicks’ reported attempt to move on from him is his looming extension.
Quickley is on the third year of his $10.8 million, four-year rookie contract. With him becoming expensive in his current reserve role with the team, the Knicks can replace him with their stash pick Rokas Jokubaitis, who is making strides in the Euroleague, or pick up a veteran on a team-friendly deal.
Quickley is averaging a career-low 10.1 points, but he’s hitting a career-high 40.1 percent from the field after a slow start. He’s also grabbing a career-high 4.3 rebounds per game and dishing out 3.0 assists across 23.2 minutes off the bench.
The Mavericks have picked up former Knick Kemba Walker from free agency, but his knee issues have kept him from playing back-to-back games. Walker made his season debut on a 20-minute restriction last Saturday in Dallas’ 144-115 loss to Chicago. He had eight points, two rebounds, five assists and one block in 19 minutes. Walker sat out the Mavericks’ next two games.
Quickley could give the Mavericks another playmaker alongside Luka Doncic and Spencer Dinwiddie.
