The wait is over for New York Knicks shooting guard Quentin Grimes. The talented sharpshooter had the fourth year of his contract exercised by the franchise, securing his position with the team through the 2024-25 NBA season.
Knicks: Quentin Grimes Earns One More Season With Franchise
The Knicks posted the news to their Twitter account yesterday:
The expectation was that the Knicks would keep Grimes around into next season, and the front office made good on that. Grimes originally signed a four-year, $11.1 million deal ahead of the 2021-22 season.
He currently earns roughly $2.4 million and will see the biggest paycheck of his young career next season with a guaranteed $4.3 million salary.
Grimes will be a restricted-free agent in the summer of 2025. The Knicks signed shooting guard Donte DiVincenzo to a four-year, $50 million deal this offseason. While Grimes is looked at as the starter for now, it will be incumbent for him to continue to elevate his play in order to earn more years with the Knicks with several shooting guards behind him.

Grimes’ Play Has Been Up And Down in the Early Stages of the Season
Like the majority of his teammates, Grimes has shot inefficiently from the field, sporting a 36.4 percent clip from the floor. His three-point shooting has also been slightly under par, as he’s connected on 35.3 percent of his triples.
Defensively, Grimes has been asked to guard opposing teams’ best wing players. His primary assignments have played well against him. Jayson Tatum went off for 34 points in the Knicks’ loss to the Boston Celtics, and Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray scored an efficient 18 points on 8-17 shooting from the floor.
Fortunately, Grimes did hold New Orleans Pelicans point guard CJ McCollum to 12 points in their third game of the season, though the Knicks fell 96-87. Overall, Grimes owns a -5.6 box plus-minus, which is the worst on the team.
Knee-jerk reactions are unwise at this early juncture of the season. The Knicks, as a team, need to find their rhythm and see the bottom of the net. It is expected that Grimes will help New York do exactly that.
