The New York Knicks made significant moves at the trade deadline last season, acquiring OG Anunoby from the Toronto Raptors and bringing in Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks from the Detroit Pistons. These transactions aimed to bolster the team’s competitiveness and depth.

Shifting Roster Dynamics

Following the trades, the Knicks secured Anunoby with a contract extension but chose a different path for Bogdanovic and Burks. Bogdanovic was traded away, and Burks was allowed to enter free agency, eventually signing a one-year contract with the Miami Heat, as reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Alec Burks’ Journey and Contributions

Alec Burks, a 13-year NBA veteran, contributed significantly during his tenure with the Knicks, averaging 6.5 points this past season and 10.4 points across both teams he played for. Known for his solid role-playing capabilities, Burks had a standout 2020–21 season with New York, where he shot 41.5% from three-point range and averaged 12.7 points per game.

In the playoffs, he stepped up by averaging 14.8 points over six games, shooting 50% from the field and 42.9% from three-point range. Despite his offensive contributions, Burks was less impactful defensively.

Knicks’ Draft Strategy and Future Outlook

Post-trade and free agency, the Knicks focused on the draft to add complementary pieces to their roster. They picked Tyler Kolek from Marquette, a capable backup point guard and secondary ball handler, aiming to enhance their backcourt depth. As the Knicks continue to adjust their roster, the focus remains on building a balanced team capable of making a deeper playoff run.
