The 2022 New York Jets were officially eliminated from the playoffs yesterday. They dropped their fifth game in a row en route to a now 7-9 record. It will be the 12th year in a row that the Jets will not appear in a playoff game.
Yesterday’s game was a disaster from the first play, as the Jets allowed the Seattle Seahawks to pick up 60 yards on a run. The defense had yet another slow start, allowing 17 points in the first 16 minutes of the game. Two weeks in a row, the Jets’ offense was hard to watch.
The Jets ended up losing by three scores, 23-6, in pretty embarrassing fashion considering what was still at stake for them.

New York Jets Week 17 Recap:
Starting with team stats, the Jets once again got worked in nearly every facet.
The time of possession, a lingering problem all season, continued yesterday as the Jets possessed the ball for 26:22 to the Seahawks 33:38.
For the fifth straight game, the Jets lost the turnover battle. Yesterday, in quite lopsided fashion, 3-0.
In the red zone, the Jets were 0-1 to the Seahawks, 2-5. On third down, the Jets lost as well, finishing 4-13 (31%) to the Seahawks 5-15 (33%).
Lastly, on special teams, the Jets were the team to commit more mistakes in Week 17. Between the Seahawks nearly blocking a punt, downing one inside the Jets’ one-yard line, or a missed field goal, the Jets made more errors in the third phase, and it played a part in a three-score deficit.
New York Jets offense has second consecutive woeful performance:
The Jets picked up 279 total yards of offense in yesterday’s beatdown (4.2 yards per play).
In his return, Mike White did not look 100% but still played a poor game. After missing two games, White went 23-46 (50%), throwing for 240 yards (5.2 per attempt), with no touchdowns, two interceptions, a fumble lost, and a rating of 47.4. He missed on some throws badly in yesterday’s game.
The Jets rushing attack remained a complete disappointment. Going up against the second-worst run defense in football (allowing 155.5 yards per game) and over 160 yards in five of their last six games, the Jets picked up a total of 75 rushing yards, averaging 4.2 per carry. Mike LaFleur also happened to not commit to it, an issue in most Jets losses this year, and the Jets’ ground game fell short big time in as favorable a matchup as they could ask for.
The lone pass-catcher worth noting with a good performance from this one was tight end, Tyler Conklin. He caught all six passes that came his way for 80 yards with a long of 30.
Up front, the offensive line of the Jets was an utter disaster, to no surprise. A total of 10 quarterback hits, six tackles for loss, and four sacks were allowed. The group will have to be revamped this offseason.
New York Jets defense has third slow start over five-game losing streak:
Slow starts for the Jets’ defense have been a theme over this terrible five-game stretch. As noted above, they allowed 17 points on the board in a little under 16 minutes of play yesterday.
They allowed the Seahawks to run for 198 yards, averaging 5.2 per rush. Through the air, two explosives, plays of 25 yards or more, were allowed by the Jets’ pass defense.
Finally, though, upfront, pressure was created yesterday. The Jets concluded with nine quarterback hits and four sacks.
As highlighted in the team stat breakdown above though, generating turnovers was practically impossible. Over the last seven games now, the Jets’ defense has forced just two takeaways. The Jets are 1-6 over that span.
As great as the Jets’ defense has been in 2022, throughout this five-game losing streak and 1-6 stretch, the unit has let the team down with some bad execution.
Now, with one week left to play and the postseason no longer a possibility, offseason talk for Jets Nation is on the horizon.
