The New York Jets were fortunate to bring in star outside linebacker Haason Reddick this offseason, but an unfortunate development has given the franchise some concerns as OTA’s draw on. Reddick has been a no-show at the Jets’ voluntary workouts this spring, which Brian Costello of the New York Post reports as being due to financial disputes behind the scenes:
“It is unknown exactly why Reddick is skipping the voluntary OTAs, but all signs point to him being unhappy with his contract. He sought a contract extension from the Eagles this offseason, and that led to the team trading him,” Costello wrote.
Jets could ink Haason Reddick to his desired extension amid OTA’s holdout
The two-time Pro Bowler is rumored to be seeking more dollars than the $14.25 million he’ll earn in the final year of his three-year deal in 2024. The Jets have $6.2 million in cap space for the upcoming campaign and nearly $58.3 million for 2025. They can give Reddick a healthy extension, seeing that their roster is rounded out with top talent across the board.

Reddick is needed for a Jets team with real Super Bowl hopes
When last seen in 2023, the 240-pounder posted 11 sacks and 23 quarterback hits, earning a 75.2 player grade from PFF. He conveniently joined the team after defensive end Bryce Huff departed for the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency this winter, taking the 10 sacks he provided the Jets last season along with him.
The Jets will need Reddick ready to go by Week 1 to have their best shot at making a Super Bowl run. New York put forth a great defense a year ago, yet their pass rush will rely on the 29-year-old to back up their four-man rush and wear the shoes that Huff left empty from an output standpoint.
While OTA’s are optional, the franchise led by head coach Robert Saleh would rather have Reddick running with the 53-man roster than rounding into shape on his own. No matter, the Jets will likely get their first look at their star defender at training camp this summer.
