With Aaron Rodgers officially signing his one-year contract with the Steelers, could we see him push their front office to trade for one of his former receivers? With rumors swirling of this becoming a possibility, let’s take a look at the possibility of a trade with the New York Jets.
Aaron Rodgers has tons of experience with Allen Lazard
Allen Lazard and Rodgers have plenty of experience playing together, going back to their time in Green Bay and, more recently, in New York. This duo could meet back up in Pittsburgh, as the Steelers could be looking into the Jets’ receiver.

Currently, the Steelers do not have a bona fide No. 2 wide receiver. They have DK Metcalf at the top of their depth chart, and a bunch of average receivers following him. If there were one player Rodgers would like to add, it would likely be Lazard.
The Steelers have a taller receiver group, and adding Lazard wouldn’t change much. Their blocking for the running game should be good with the talent they have now as well, but Lazard would make it that much better.
For the Steelers, it wouldn’t hurt to throw a late Day 3 pick to the Jets for Rodgers’ former receiver, as he would bring comfort for the Hall of Fame quarterback.
Jets could be looking to free up a spot in the receiver room
This move could also make sense for the Jets. Lazard is a solid receiver and could possibly start for this Jets team. He totaled 37 receptions for 530 yards and six touchdowns last season.

But the Jets have an abundance of young receivers on their roster, and they could be looking to make space. Typically, teams go into the season with six receivers on their roster. As of now, the Jets have 13 receivers on their roster.
In that case, shedding an aging veteran wideout for a future draft pick might not be the worst idea.
Trading Lazard is not a slam dunk, though, as he does serve a purpose for the Jets, even if he won’t play the biggest role. However, there is a real possibility that he could get shipped off, and the Steelers could be the team that trades for him.
