One of the many things that stood out from New York Giants‘ head coach Joe Judge’s opening press conference was his fundamentalist mentality and desire to make things simple. Focusing too much on the extremities of offensive and defensive play-calling can sometimes become a waste of time, which is why he expects perfection on the smaller details than the creative side of things.

Similar to the way the New England Patriots manage their team, execution is the most critical factor. A play-caller can draw up the most creative play possible, but if every player isn’t doing what they’re supposed to do, the entire play becomes redundant. That’s what Judge will bring to the Giants — perfection on what matters and refining every minor detail until everything comes together as a cohesive unit. The ebb and flow of the team rely on consistency, and each player doing their job to absolute perfection.

The New York Giants need to trust Joe Judge with the hiring process:

Expect Judge to select coordinators that have experience as head coaches, simply because they can provide him with the necessary knowledge from their mistakes to iron out his methods. Also, they offer more in terms of value when concentrated on a specific side of the ball.

Cleveland Browns’ former HC Freddie Kitchens has emerged as a top target for Judge as his offensive coordinator. The pair worked together while at Mississippi State back in the day, and reuniting would allow them a chance to succeed together (hopefully).

Several quotes from Judge gave us an idea of what to expect in the future, specifically regarding his decision making and reasoning behind such decisions.

“What I learned from Coach Belichick is real simple: Be flexible with your personnel. Don’t try to shove square pegs in a round hole. Figure out what you have.”

“What I’m about is an old school, physical mentality. We’ll punch you in the nose for 60 minutes, we’ll play every play like its a history in the life of its own”

The Giants will be re-branded in a sense during 2020, focusing on toughness and physicality, which is the old-school version of football. Those are two attributes we haven’t seen in quite some time, but Judge will work towards bringing them back. However, players are only as good as their coaches, so the hirings he executes in the coming days will be imperative to the team’s success.
