The New York Giants managed a win against the Chicago Bears in their most recent preseason game, but they didn’t do it without problems. The most notable problems came from quarterback Daniel Jones who had a good game against the Bears but made a couple of mistakes that cast a shadow over the performance – mainly, the mistakes of fumbling two times, one of them on the snap and the other time after taking a hit during the pass rush.

It wasn’t expected that Jones would have another perfect game after completing all of his passes and throwing a touchdown to the corner of the end zone in his first outing, but two fumbles in one game still isn’t a good look for any quarterback, rookie or not, and the problem was enough to attract the attention of New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur personally.

One of the fumbles, of course, was completely preventable – fumbling on the snap is something that happens at times for rookie quarterbacks still transitioning from college systems to the NFL, with one of the most essential skills often being overlooked for more flashy areas of play such as throwing the ball and finding open receivers, and Jones can join the list of quarterbacks to fall victim to such.

It wasn’t the only problem the Giants faced, as the team suffered form a few other somewhat connected incidents such as a muffed punt and a dropped interception, all examples of things that depending on their outcomes could have turned the tide of the game had this been a more important regular season game with both teams going all out to win.

The team fortunately still has a couple of preseason games left to sort out issues like this – and now that the problem has made itself clear, it’s something the team can focus on.
