Good Morning, New York Giants Fans!
The New York Giants offense isn’t one player away from being an elite unit, but rather more experience for their rookie quarterback. Daniel Jones is the key to success for the Giants moving forward, and providing him with weapons is a priority.
Jones already has Saquon Barkley, Golden Tate, Evan Engram, and Sterling Shepard to utilize, which is more than enough firepower to take over games and increase scoring production. However, claiming former New England Patriots wideout, Josh Gordon, isn’t the worst idea.
Gordon, who was placed on IR last week, was cut after the trade deadline so no competing teams could gain his services. The Giants are one of the worst teams in the NFL and have a high waiver claim spot, which makes Gordon coming to New York a possibility, but an unlikely one.
General manager Dave Gettleman might not want to risk Gordon being a distraction, especially if he relapses and gets into trouble again for drug usage. However, kicking the tires on a big-bodied receiver isn’t a bad idea. They could effectively cut Bennie Fowler and replace him with a far better option. Also, if the Giants were to land Gordon and let him walk as a UFA after the season, they could be in line to receive a compensatory pick, which is another excellent benefit to claiming him.
A kick returner is available:
In recent weeks, the New York Giants have been utilizing wide receiver Darius Slayton as their kick returner, but his lack of lateral speed and quickness have hindered his success. Darius Jennings, former Tennessee Titans, kick returner, was released on Thursday. He led the NFL in KOR last season. That’s an exciting aspect of his game, and he would fill a position of need for Big Blue immediately. Look out for Gettleman to pursue him in the coming days.
