The New York Giants are likely moving on from wide receiver Darius Slayton before the start of the regular season, considering he’s set to count $2.5 million against the salary cap.
The Giants could use that money at the cornerback position, which has little depth right now behind Adoree Jackson and Aaron Robinson.
Slayton played in the first preseason game but is dealing with a hamstring injury that has hampered his contributions.

Last season, Slayton tallied 339 yards and two scores, including a 44.8% catch rate. All three of those statistics were career lows for the fourth-year wideout.

In a perfect world, the Giants would trade Slayton and add draft capital or a player swap in the process, clearing his salary space.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, teams have inquired about his services ahead of roster cutdowns. The Giants cut seven players on Monday morning to kick things off with the deadline for the 53-man roster at 4 PM on Tuesday.
Unfortunately, Slayton’s qualities simply don’t fit what the Giants are trying to accomplish moving forward. Slayton is a good downfield threat and has blazing speed, but he’s not the best route runner. He’s earning too much to justify a roster spot at this point in time.
If general manager Joe Schoen receives a reasonable offer, expect him to part ways with Slayton after three years with the team.
