New York Giants fans are jonesing for some football. In a summer where no preseason games have been played, the fans of Big Blue have had to take their coverage where they can get it. This weekend, they will be in luck.

Friday night on NBC4 New York at 7pm, highlights from Thursday’s Blue-White scrimmage will be aired. Not only will their be highlights but the hour will also contain interviews, feature stories and analysis by Giants play-by-play voice Bob Papa, analysts Carl Banks, Shaun O’Hara and others.

First year had coach Joe Judge was optimistic about the season as the Giants broke camp after the scrimmage on Thursday.

“They’ve made a lot of progress this camp,” Judge said of his players. “I’m very proud with how they’ve worked on a daily basis. I couldn’t tell you how pleased I am with their urgency, their attention to detail, and their willingness to work the way we want them to. That’s key. They’ve been fun to coach. I look forward to keeping coaching these guys right here. Obviously, we’re always looking for further improvement. You never arrive, you’re never really where you want to be, no matter what level you’re at. We’re going to keep pushing, correcting from mistakes, emphasize where our strengths are and making sure we use those to create matchups in our favor. But I’m pleased on how they’ve worked in this training camp.”

The Giants will now go through the exercise of paring their roster down from 80 to 53 players by Saturday at 4pm. On Sunday, they will begin filling out their 16-player practice squad.

“It’ll be busy, said Judge. “It’s our responsibility as we’ve been working throughout camp, it’s not the first time we’re going to talk personnel. It’s not going to be the first time we will have the specific conversations we’re going to have over the next 48 hours. We just want to make sure we do all of our diligence to get every player the right evaluation, to think long-term in terms of what this team is going to be like throughout the season, what meets our needs, where our depth is. Ultimately, we’re looking to keep as many good players in our program as possible. That’s true for our 53-man roster, the practice squad, and whatever other means we have. It’s going to be busy, but we’ve done a lot of leg work on the front end, giving everybody a fair opportunity every day. We just want to make sure we take our time to review everything and make sure we make the right decisions.”

If Friday’s action is not enough, on Saturday night at 8pm, MSG Network will be re-airing Super Bowl XXV in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Giants’ thrilling 20-19 victory over the Buffalo Bills as outlined in the below release from MSG:

“Three decades ago, Bills kicker Scott Norwood’s field goal attempt sailed wide right in the final seconds of Super Bowl XXV and the Giants held on to defeat the Bills, 20-19, to secure the team’s second Lombardi Trophy in franchise history.

The game featured one of the greatest Super Bowl stories of all time as Jeff Hostetler, a seldom-used backup quarterback who took over as the starter late in the season after Phil Simms broke his foot, led the Giants to their second championship in five seasons and one of the most thrilling and memorable victories in the team’s 95-year history.”

With the coronavirus restrictions still in force in both New York and New Jersey, treat yourself to some Giant football this Labor Day weekend, which will hopefully be the last football-less weekend until the middle of next February.
