Giants linebacker accused of ‘dirty play’ by Seahawks’ Geno Smith

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith (7) leaves the field during the second quarter headed for locker room at MetLife Stadium against the New York Giants

Following the New York Giants’ embarrassing 24–3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night, Seahawks QB Geno Smith had choice words for one of Big Blue’s defenders.

Geno Smith accuses Giants’ LB Isaiah Simmons of “dirty play”

Mid-way through the second quarter of last night’s game, Seahawks QB Geno Smith was tackled near the sideline by Giants LB Isaiah Simmons. Smith was dragged down from behind right near the sideline as he was running out of bounds. The awkward tackle caused Smith to exit the game with a knee injury before returning in the second half.

After the game, Smith had some choice words for Simmons:

“I don’t respect that type of stuff. You don’t need to take shots at guys running out of bounds on the sidelines.”

When asked what happened on the play, Smith gave a blunt response after the game:

“A dirty play,” Smith said to reporters. “Dirty play. You guys could see it. It was a dirty play. There’s no place in this sport for that. And, you know, hopefully something happens. But other than that, the grace of God allowed me to come back into this game.”

Smith returned to the game and went on to lead his Seahawks to victory over the Giants. It was a scary moment and an awkward landing, but Smith walked away from the game healthy and is thankfully not expected to miss any significant time with an injury.
