With training camp just around the corner, the New York Giants are still hosting free-agent visits to consider bolstering specific position groups. On Monday, they hosted veteran offensive lineman Greg Van Roten along with five other players, including Super Bowl-winning receiver Byron Pringle.
What Would Pringle Bring to the Giants?
Pringle has bounced around the league over the past two seasons following his successful stint with the Kansas City Chiefs, notably during the 2021 season when he posted 650 yards and eight touchdowns.
Over five NFL seasons, Pringle has accumulated 1,315 yards and 12 total scores. Last year with the Washington Commanders, he recorded only 161 yards on 21 targets, including a 66.7% reception rate.

Giants’ Wide Receiver Dynamics
The Giants’ current wide receiver unit blends youth and veteran experience. Of course, 6th overall pick Malik Nabers is expected to be the top option, supported by Wan’Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt.
However, they also have Darius Slayton and Isaiah Hodgins as experienced players who can support the group. Their depth is further solidified with Allen Robinson signing onto a veteran deal and youngsters like Bryce Ford-Wheaton eyeing potential roster spots.

The Role Pringle Could Play
Pringle could offer support as a kick returner on special teams as well as bring postseason experience. While he is a few years removed from his best days, the Giants aren’t asking him to be a starter but rather to provide backup. Having spent 50% of his career in the slot, Pringle’s depth behind Wan’Dale could prove beneficial.
