The NFL’s head coaching carousel was heating up. On Sunday morning it was announced that the New England Patriots will be hiring Mike Vrabel as their next head coach. This hiring will have an interesting effect on the New York Giants’ front office.

Patriots reportedly hiring Giants front office exec Ryan Cowden

Vrabel is reportedly bringing front office executive Ryan Cowden over to New England with him, per Charles Robinson of Yahoo. Cowden joined the Giants’ front office as the executive advisor to general manager Joe Schoen in 2023.

This will be a reunion for Cowden and Vrabel as the two shared time in Tennessee with the Titans from 2016 to 2022. Cowden was the Titans’ director of player personnel, vice president of player personnel, and eventual interim general manager. Vrabel was the head coach of the Titans during that time.

According to Robinson, Cowden is “expected to be added to the Patriots’ personnel mix,” however, not as a general manager. Eliot Wolf is expected to retain personnel power in New England, but adding Cowden to the front office is Vrabel’s preference.

Schoen brought Cowden in as his executive advisor during the 2023 offseason. The two had worked together with the Carolina Panthers from 2000 to 2007. The Giants’ front office is expected to remain intact otherwise after co-owner and team president John Mara announced that the team would be retaining Schoen and company at the start of the offseason.
