After spending the last two seasons with the New York Giants, QB Tyrod Taylor remains in New York, just with a different team. This offseason, Taylor signed a two-year, $12 million deal with the New York Jets to serve as Aaron Rodgers’ backup. Recently, the 34-year-old spoke on the difference between the two franchises.

“This is no disrespect to [the Giants] or anything, but when coming in here and being around the guys for Phase One, it was refreshing the energy throughout the locker room,” said Taylor. “On the field, (it) just is different. I’ve been on a couple different teams … I think we’re in a good space.”
Last season, the Giants were one of the NFL’s worst offenses. The team started three different QBs (Taylor, Daniel Jones, and Tommy DeVito), who were sacked a franchise-record 85 times. Taylor was 2-3 in his five starts last season.

Tyrod Taylor spent two seasons with the struggling Giants
Taylor spent the 2022, and 2023 seasons with the Giants backing up Daniel Jones. He appeared in 14 games (five starts), throwing for six touchdowns and four interceptions across the two seasons. Now, with the team’s crosstown rival, he will be backing up future hall-of-famer Aaron Rodgers.
To Taylor’s credit, the Jets are in a much better position to compete for a playoff spot than the Giants are. They boast a roster full of dynamic playmakers on both sides of the ball, whereas the Giants are still searching for their identity following another difficult season.
Taylor will be looking to make an impact in his 14th NFL season, a career-long backup, the veteran quarterback is excited to be with a team that is trending in the right direction for the first time in years.
