The New York Giants have a ton of leverage in the 2022 NFL draft, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they will capitalize on it and move back to acquire more assets.
General manager Joe Schoen has already indicated they will consider any moves that could benefit them long-term, especially if quarterback insurance for Daniel Jones is a priority.
There are a number of teams that could be looking to move up and grab a quarterback this year, and given the Giants have two top-7 picks, they have a ton of leverage to maneuver.
Three teams the New York Giants can trade back with in the 2022 NFL Draft:
1.) Seattle
The Seattle Seahawks just added a ton of draft capital after setting Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos this off-season. They currently have the 9th overall pick and two second-round picks (40th and 41st). If the Giants want to move back, Seattle can leapfrog Atlanta to the 7th selection and give away one of their second-round picks and potentially another mid-round selection. There’s always a possibility the Giants look to grab their 2023 first-rounder, putting a more detailed trade together.
2.) Saints
The New Orleans Saints also present a great opportunity for Big Blue to make a move. New Orleans has the 16th and 19 overall selections after dealing a 2023 first-rounder to Philadelphia. With two first-round picks this year and the 49th overall pick, the Giants could move back out of the top 15, similar to what they did with the Chicago Bears last year. However, they may only be considering moving back if a 2023 first-rounder is included, and the Saints have already given theirs up to the Eagles.
3.) Pittsburgh
I wouldn’t rule out the Pittsburgh Steelers as a potential team for the Giants to deal around.
Pittsburgh currently hosts the 20th and 52nd picks, but they have a future first-rounder they can float in a prospective deal. The issue is that Mike Tomlin is a tremendous head coach and expecting Pittsburgh to have a top-10 pick next year is rather optimistic.
The Giants need to find a team that will struggle to win games with a new QB under center and a questionable coaching staff. That’s easier said than done, but teams will come calling to move up if Malik Willis and Kenny Pickett slip a few spots.
