UFC working to finalize Kevin Holland – Daniel Rodriguez

Kevin Holland

The UFC is currently working hard to beef up their next PPV card. Over the weekend, we learned that Tony Ferguson would be taking on Li Jingliang at UFC 279 in just a few weeks. Dana White announced it this past weekend at the post-fight press conference.

Well, today we learned of another welterweight matchup that appears heading for the PPV main card. Kevin Holland (23-7) said on his Instagram that he will be fighting Daniel Rodriguez (16-2) in a few weeks at UFC 279.

While Holland announced the fight, it has not been finalized yet. That said, the promotion is currently working hard to get the fight done in order to beef up their sales for the upcoming PPV. There have been whispers that the fight hasn’t been selling particularly well.

None of that is obviously confirmed. However, despite the star power of both Nate Diaz and Khamzat Chimaev, the general public seems to believe that the fight will be so one-sided that it hardly seems fair. Given the lopsided opinions, there seems to be a slight lack of interest.

UFC 279 Welterweight Matchup

Again, the fight has not been finalized, but for the purpose of this article, we will proceed like it is. Kevin Holland will be making his third appearance in the welterweight division. After rising to stardom and being on the short-list for fighter of the year in 2020 at 185, Holland stumbled in 2021.

When he faced the elites of the division, he hit a road block. Thus, he took his talents down to 170 and he’s looked sensational. So far, he’s 2-0 with two stoppages but he’s going to get his stiffest test in this next matchup.

Since making his debut in the UFC, Daniel Rodriguez has gone 6-1. Currently, he’s riding a three-fight winning streak with his last fight coming just about a year ago against Kevin Lee. In that fight, Rodriguez was able to use his superior striking to get a decision win.

This is another really fun fight for fans at UFC 279. While the card isn’t being filled with guys who are directly in title contention outside of Khamzat Chimaev, the card is being filled with a ton of fun fighters who will put on an incredible show.
